A year later, thanks to Hotjar, Doorbell and Viral Loops…

Since launching Ellp in September 2016 and 100,000 downloads later, we learned a great deal about what it takes to launch a startup. One thing is certain, there are some cool tools out there willing to make your life a lot easier!

If you are a startup owner, you may be on the lookout for the best services out there to help you getting the right audience and communicating with your users, receiving their feedback and measuring their behaviors. Let me share with you what tools we chose for Ellp, what they can do for you and what was our experience with them.

Viral Loops

(A revolutionary template-based viral & referral marketing solution for modern marketers)

Our first public appearance featured a sign-up campaign for early adopters of Ellp’s Beta version. The campaign lasted for a month and recorded over 1,200 sign-ups. The last thing you want to do before launching is reinventing the wheel. That is why we turned to Viral Loops and used one of their referral programs. We had designed a simple, yet effective, leaderboard campaign whereby the Top 10 referrers would get VIP status and receive Amazon vouchers. The cool thing with Viral Loops is that they offer pre-made templates for all sorts of gamified launches.

(A tool to gather in-app feedback)

On launch day, I remember waking up much earlier than usual to start seeing the feedback coming in. We were all excited to see whether the concept was being accepted and that the design and user experience was appealing as we thought it was. But what we were interested to hear the most was blunt feedback that would enable us to up our game. To encourage users to share their thoughts, we introduced an in-product poll asking users to submit their sentiment and to share anything they feel was worth sharing with us. As the Doorbell.io feedback tool supported the concept of user sentiment out-of-the-box, it was an ideal match for Ellp. Doorbell’s Feedback Capture API allowed us to implement Doorbell integration on the Ellp server rather than in the Ellp application, as this would allow greater flexibility. To date, we have collected over 3,600 direct user feedbacks, of which a staggering 88% was positive! Even though we’re blushed to see all of this support coming in, we give extreme importance to those users who either provide recommendations or require additional support or simply dislike our product. Doorbell’s simple interface allows us to segment this feedback and get back to users as quickly as possible. Their service is impeccable and Phil, the brains behind it all, is always super responsive to any query we might have or suggestion we might make. Eventually, in addition to our in-app feedback, it was a no-brainer to integrate our website feedback and email feedback with Doorbell too, and now we handle all users’ feedback through a single interface.

(A new and easy way to truly understand your web and mobile site visitors)

While a lot of our energies are focused on the product, we are also very active in our online presence. Our website, www.ellp.com, does not only need to convey our message and brand values, but it is also the place to be for those wanting to download Ellp. Over the past year, we constantly kept optimizing the website’s user-experience, improved on our content and tried to make it easier for users to download and install Ellp. We did, in fact, roll out a number of iterations on Ellp.com as you can see below.

What you see above, is the evolution of Ellp website in the last year
What you see above, is the evolution of Ellp website in the last year

Changes, however, are not just esthetical. In fact, we have been using Hotjar to make sure we really understand our users’ challenges in browsing our site, understanding our value proposition and giving Ellp a try.

Through their cool heat map functionality, we could easily figure out what are the content, visuals and CTAs (calls to action) capturing users attention. It might not always be what you want to think! In this particular version, we realized that the 30-second animation was clearly grabbing our users’ attention but failed to take the message across. This is when we decided to have an animated hero banner that was more descriptive. This brought about around 26% improvement in Ellp’s download rate. A huge success for us (for now!).

Hotjar also helped us a lot in collecting user feedback online through their easy-to-set-up polls. Recently, we did in fact set up an online poll (in literally 2 mins!) asking the users what cards they would want us to develop next. Tons of cool ideas started flowing in and some of them are already at development stage!

While there is still a lot ahead of us in terms of developing Ellp and taking it where our vision leads, the progress we made in a year is tremendous. Could Ellp have done it without these tools? For sure, not. We’re living the era of startups and there are thousands of tools out there willing to make our lives easier. You just have to look for them. Good luck!

P.S. If you’re a fan of getting things done faster, then Ellp is just the right solution for you. This new PC assistant can take care of a variety of tasks for you from maintaining your PC at the optimal level of performance, to helping you stay focused and be productive, to monitoring your online safety and even to elevating your entertainment. And what’s best – Ellp is free to download and yours to keep!

Hello there, Our Dear Ellp User!

Time flies! Another month is about to end so here I am: Aneta, your Ellp Evangelist in another post to summarize another busy and fruitful month at Ellp!

Ellp Product Team

In terms of functionality updates, this month is a HUUUGE one for Ellp. Why? As the long-desired and requested-by-many ‘multi-configuration’ feature is now available within the product!

What does that mean? Some of your favorite cards can do more than one job at a time for you. To find out how to make the most out of this functionality, check our Head of Product Reuben’s blog post called Extending the Ellp Card.

One would think that since so many resources were taken to implement this change, that we may not have had the time to see to other important features.Well, one would be wrong as there is more!

More new aesthetic UI and UX changes were introduced to Ellp’s design. Both the Ellp cards and view panel were revamped with a touch of freshness. The design is even simpler now. Navigation within the product is also further simplified and users can now get a better idea of the full range of cards which are right for them.

No way!?

Yes way!

But there’s more!

3 more Ellp cards in the bag!

  • When my desktop gets crowded, organize it
  • When I unplug my headphones, mute the sound
  • When I’m working hard, remind me to take a break

You can find out more about these cards in the September Update post.

New changes to our Blog

So here’s the 411, every month we take a look at the blog and check for the most popular posts that provide the most value to our readers. Based on your feedback (and our stats), we decided to introduce two major changes to the blog flow:

Before I let you go, there are two more articles I don’t want for you to miss out on this month:

From managing your virtual desktops to restoring that super-needed closed-by-mistake browser window (ooops!) to bookmarking a website, we have you covered. Take notes now 🙂

5 reasons to take a break is our ultimate productivity hack. Delivering results is not about working hard and falling asleep with your nose on your keyboard. It’s about being disciplined and smart. So next time, before you skip your break, think twice!

Latest Ellp Updates – September

Ellp updates
Written by Janice

September 14 - (5 Min Read)

Another month at Ellp brings with it new Ellp updates! Hoorayy 🎉 The team, here at Ellp, is continuously striving to make Ellp better. Let’s just say that the product team have outdone themselves this time round. How? Since our last update back in August, Ellp now got a new mini facelift, new cards and much more.

So what’s in store for you with the latest update?

For those of you who have already updated Ellp, might have already familiarised yourselves with the recent changes and features. But for those who have yet to update Ellp, here’s what to expect.

New Cards

When my desktop gets crowded, organize it

Clutter doesn’t encourage productivity! I’m not only talking about desk clutter but also about disorganization on your PC. Most of the time you end up saving hundreds of files on your desktop without finding the time to organize it as you keep postponing it for later. Try this Ellp card, to help you organize your desktop. Once activated this card will help you clean out your desktop when it gets too overcrowded.

When I unplug my headphones, mute the sound

The idea for this card was created by you for you! We received multiple messages suggesting this particular card, and finally, here it is! Your PC can detect when your headphones are plugged in, but it can’t detect it when they’re unplugged. Ellp can help with that. By simply activating this card, Ellp will mute the sound the moment you unplug your headphones, so you can keep the peace!

When I’m working hard, remind me to take a break

If you’re the kind of person who gets so lost in their work, then this card is ideal for you. It’s normal to be so focused on an important task that you forget to take your breaks. However, breaks are important just as much as any other task. It might sound counter-intuitive, but believe me, it’s not! Just like any other engine, your brain needs to refuel. So every now and again, step away from your desk, go make yourself a cup of coffee or simply step out for some fresh air. Your brain and body will thank you for it. While you’re at it get Ellp you help you with it. To do so simply activate the card and Ellp will notify you every time it’s time to take a break.

Redesign of the cards and view panel

The new design is clean and was made even simpler, allowing for easier navigation around your Ellp cards, making it more user-friendly. The redesign of the cards view, utilizes the whole space, and the editing parts are more prominent and clearly visible so you can easily edit according to your preferences. The view panel now, also suggests the Ellp cards that you might want to activate next, based on your previously activated cards, making Ellp yours.

september updates-02

Multi-config feature

We’ve received tons of messages asking us to add more flexibility on the Ellp cards’ customization options. This new Ellp multi-config feature is just the first step in that direction.  This latest feature is currently available on 14 of our Ellp Cards and gives you the possibility to do more with Ellp. For a more detailed overview, check out our previous blog, written by none other than our Head of Product, Reuben.

The dynamics of the product are expanding and we promise to keep on improving and optimizing the product to ensure and enhance your Ellp experience.

Extending the Ellp card

multi-config feature-00
Written by Reuben Borg
Head of Product

September 7 - (5 Min Read)

An all-new level of Ellp card Customization is something we’ve been working on for a while now, as you may recall from my interview a couple of weeks ago. And for those who follow our blog regularly, you might also be familiar with the way we prioritize feedback, and the huge influence you guys have on our product strategy.

One of the main topics among the 3,000+ positive messages we received so far has been adding more flexibility on the Ellp Cards’ customization options; which is a way you would be able to make an Ellp card truly yours.

The recently released Ellp Multi-Config feature is the first huge step in this direction. Don’t worry too much about the geeky name we chose for it, because the true definition you can use is “extending the awesomeness of a card to as much as I want to”  😉

Let’s take the card ‘When I turn on my PC, open my favorite website’ as an example. Till now, you could only configure this for 1 website, say your Gmail. But you might also want to open Facebook and some news site, right? Or perhaps set the ‘When my email is involved in a data breach, alert me’  card to also check online accounts registered on your partner’s, children’s, or parents’ email addresses. Well, now you can.

This feature is currently available on 14 of our Ellp Cards. To show you exactly how it works, I’ll use the card ‘When I turn on my PC, open my favorite website’ as an example. As always, 3 simple steps are key:

  • Step 1: Configure the first instance of the card to your liking, and activate it by clicking on the yellow ‘Activate Card’  button at the bottom.

multi-config feature-01

  • Step 2: The card is now ON! Go ahead and create a second instance of the card by clicking on the grayish ‘ADD ANOTHER’  button right below the card title. You should notice that the card title has duplicated itself. (Note: the ‘ADD ANOTHER’ button will only be visible on the Ellp Cards which support the multi-config feature).
  • Step 3: Simply edit the second instance as you wish. If the card is already ON, then there is no need to re-activate it.

multi-config feature-02

That’s it! Now you have a single card doing more for you 🙃 You can keep adding more instances – it’s unlimited!

multi-config feature-03

Created an instance by mistake? Or perhaps there is one you don’t need anymore? Just click on the close ( x ) right next to it, and it’s gone.

Finally, when you go back to the main screen, you will notice that the Ellp card you just configured with more than 1 instance will have a stacked-like look. This is for you to easily distinguish which cards you have set more than one time.

multi-config feature-04

Yep, that simple. If you like the Ellp Cards and what they do, then you will love this, trust me!

This is not a trial. It’s yours to keep!

Sharing is caring love. Spread a little 😍

New on Ellp this month

ellp update

August 10 - (4 Min Read)

It’s August everyone! And that means a new month that brings with it a whole lot of great updates, from the awesome product team here at Ellp. Over the past months, the team has been focusing on making your life easier just by adding a little automation to your daily routine, so that you can focus on what matters most.

So what’s new in Ellp?

Well, this time round, the latest product updates revolve around 3 categories: Productivity, Performance, and Entertainment, and therefore we present you a new card for each of the aforementioned categories. So without further ado, let me introduce you to the latest card additions.

When my battery is fully charged, let me know

Kristina spilled the beans about this card, which was inspired by Ellp users, in yesterday’s blog post! The thing with PC battery notifications, is that you’re notified when your devices’ battery is running low, however, there is no available setting to let you know when your device has been fully charged. Well, our product team has created an Ellp card just for that purpose. The ‘When my battery is fully charged, let me know’ card, which falls underneath the Performance category, once activated will notify you whenever your battery is fully charged. This will not only help you to save up on your electricity bill but also prolong your battery’s lifespan.

August Updates - Battery fully charged card

When I turn on my PC, open my favorite application

Isn’t it annoying having to waste time searching for, and then clicking on your favorite application to open? Now you can get straight to the tasks that really matter, as when activating this new card, found within the Productivity category, Ellp will launch that one application that you use on a daily basis upon PC startup. Isn’t that neat?! By using this card you can rid yourself of morning mayhem and let Ellp set the right tone for the rest of your day.

August Updates - turn on PC open app card

When the International Space Station passes over me, let me know

Those of you who are obsessed with Space know what the International Space Station is and what’s its purpose. For those of you who don’t, the ISS, is a large spacecraft in low orbit around the Earth. It completes 15.5 orbits a day and serves as a home for astronauts and cosmonauts. Just in case you’d like to see it, once this card is activated, Ellp will let you know when the ISS is passing overhead.

August Updates - International Space Station card

With this latest update, now there are 34 Ellp cards made available to you, enhancing your Ellp experience. We promise you that we’ve got more up our sleeves and that more amazing updates will be available to you soon.

2 New Internet Cards

Written by Janice

June 8 - (2 Min Read)

‘Our lives revolve around instant access to a world without walls’. What does that mean exactly? We’re online every second of the day except for when we’re sleeping I guess, and we always want the information there and then, as efficiently and fast as we can get it. What really matters to us is having constant access to a WiFi connection, making sure that we’re online anywhere at any time. Obviously, being online at any time isn’t enough as we also want to make sure that the internet speed is up to par with our expectations.

Ellp’s new updates focus on the needs of today and therefore we present to you the latest card additions:

When there is a new open WiFi spot, let me know
Connectivity is key! Especially considering the fact that we’re living in the WiFi era, whereby if we have no WiFi connection we have the tendency to start feeling lost. Let’s be honest, it’s a heart- wrenching moment when you realize that you no longer have internet connectivity! Your main thoughts at that point are, ‘How am I going to tweet about my latest mishap?’ or ‘How am going to finish off sending this email while in transit without WiFi?’ – you see your life basically revolves around WiFi connectivity. But what happens when you’re not in the comfort of your own home or office, and you have no WiFi connectivity? Wouldn’t it be great to be notified of any open WiFi spots in your vicinity? This new Ellp card can help you out with that, simply turn on the activation toggle and Ellp will start notifying you when a new open WiFi spot is available around you.

Open WiFi Spot

When it’s time, check my Internet speed
How many times were you working on a project and your internet connectivity kept faltering to the extent that you couldn’t get any work done? Countless times, I would imagine, unless you’re one of those lucky persons, whose blessed with the talent of blocking out the most painful moments ;P What wouldn’t you give up for a steady Internet connection? It’s a bit of hassle to continuously test out your Internet speed, however, Ellp can sort that out for you with just a flip of a switch. Once this card is activated, Ellp will update you with your latest Internet connection every day at the time of your choice. How neat is that?!

Internet Speed

We sincerely hope you’re enjoying Ellp as much as we are creating it. We love to receive your feedback and seeing your suggestions come to live. We look forward to hearing more about your experiences and we promise you there’s a lot more Ellp cards coming your way!

These past 3 months flew by in the blink of an eye! I guess that’s what happens when you’re having fun creating and developing a product that people are enjoying 🙂 We can’t thank you enough for your feedback! To show you that your comments didn’t fall on deaf ears, we’ve got more updates for you.

So here’s what’s in store for you this time around:

When I’m spending too much time on Facebook, ping me

At some point in the day, your mind may wander off elsewhere instead of focusing on the task at hand. More often than not, you’ll end up wasting time scrolling through your Facebook newsfeed or snooping around other people’s profiles. Don’t worry, you’re not alone, we’re all guilty of this! Ellp has got a card to remedy this ailment. All you’d have to do is activate this card and select a timeframe, for example: ‘When I spend more than 30 minutes browsing through Facebook, ping me’. Once activated, Ellp will alert you when you’ve spent way too much time on Facebook, so you can stop procrastinating and get back to work.Ellp update - FB ping cardWhen my downloads folder is filling up, clear out the old stuff

When was the last time you went through your downloads folder and cleared it out? No need to be ashamed if you haven’t done so in quite a while, I dread it too! Unless you have some sort of preconfigured settings, all your downloaded files will be automatically saved in your Downloads folder. It would be swell if you were able to clear out the Downloads folder without the headache of having to manually take care of it yourself. No?! This is where this new Ellp card comes in handy! By simply activating this card and setting the time limit for how long old items can stay, Ellp will notify you whenever your Downloads folder is filling up. Once it has your approval it will clear out the old stuff for you, allowing you to get back that valuable disk space you so desperately need!

Ellp update-Full Download cardWhen I plug in my headphones, open YouTube

So we already have a card that launches Spotify when you plug in your headphones or headset. However, not everyone uses Spotify, for some YouTube e is the go-to music site. So we thought, why not have a card that launches YouTube, each time you plug in your headphones? So how does this work exactly? First things first: you’ll need headphones 😉 Once that’s sorted, simply activate the card and boom, you’re all set! This way you can save time and just go straight to your favorite videos and music. Enjoy!

ellp update-YouTube cardWhen I download a movie, save it to my preferred folder

Nowadays we can simply download anything we like, we have access to an immense variety of options, from music files to movies. Meaning that you no longer have to wait till a movie is available at your local cinema to watch it, instead, you can simply purchase and download to watch it in the comfort of your own home. How sweet is that?! The only issue is that we tend to download so many files that it can be somewhat of a nightmare to stay going through all the downloads in search of that movie you’ve been so dying to watch. Now wouldn’t it be easier if you had your downloaded movies saved to a particular folder of your choice? With Ellp this is possible! All you have to do is select this card on Ellp and choose a designated folder that you’d like to have all downloaded movies saved to and voila – that’s you all set!

Ellp update-Movie Pref FolderWith this latest update, now there are 24 Ellp cards made available to you, enhancing your Ellp experience 🙂  This only marks the beginning of Ellp and we promise you that more outstanding updates will be made available to you in the upcoming months.
