Let me tell you – you aren’t the one to blame – your Downloads folder is!

Welcome to the first post in the new Ellp Series: Monday Productivity Boost. Each week, we will be sharing with you some small yet very powerful tips on how to boost your productivity either with introducing small changes in your routine or with flipping the proper switch within Ellp. Today, we’ll have a closer look at Downloads Folder Management. Ready?

Shannon Wheeler Quote

Mindlessly scrolling through the Downloads folder with a childlike wonder is something we are all guilty of. It’s something that can hinder our productivity in major ways:

  • We can lose our creative flow and end up stuck for hours on a project that normally would take us half an hour max;
  • We may present our boss with the outdated version of the monthly sales report without ever noticing and ‘feel’ the mistake in our wallet by the next bonus payment;
  • We miss a deadline all in all, and an important one, too!

Mindlessly scrolling through the Downloads folder is where are productivity leeks. Let’s change it!

Downloads Folder Management Tip 1 – No guilt needed, just awareness

So, let’s get real. When was the last time you went through your Downloads folder and cleared it out? No need to feel guilty if you haven’t done so in a while. The funny thing is that even if you monitor the number of files saved onto your Downloads folder, chances are that over time it will fill up to the extent that you’ll run out of space! So don’t worry about avoiding such menial tasks, I dread them too.

Unless you have some sort of preconfigured settings, all your downloaded files will be automatically saved to your Downloads folder. All work documents, your outdated resume you’ve been planning to update since last June, pictures from the company party, blurry photos of your mom’s newly renovated bathroom… No wonder you can spend ages here!

It’s a good idea to clean your Downloads folder every now and again, so as to clear out the files that are cluttering up your disk space – especially if you’re limited with storage space. After all, the Downloads folder is only a temporary space whereby all your downloaded files get downloaded to before you actually go through them and organize them into their respective folders.

This is not a trial. It’s yours to keep!

Downloads Folder Management Tip 2 – Manual Approach

The thing is that sifting through all the files within the Downloads folder and organizing or clearing them out manually may be somewhat of a tedious and boring task. Now, wouldn’t it be great if you were able to clear out the Downloads folder without the headache of having to manually clear it out yourself on a weekly or monthly basis?

Downloads Folder Management Tip 3 – Ellp’s Approach

This is where Ellp comes in handy! By simply activating this card ‘When my downloads folder is getting full, clear out the old stuff’, and setting the time limit for how long old items can stay in this folder, Ellp will notify you whenever your Downloads folder is filling up.

Full DownloadsYou can choose any period of time between as short as a week and as long as one year and seven more options to best suit your needs. Once Ellp has your approval, it will clear out the old stuff for you, allowing you to get back that valuable disk space you so desperately need!

This is not a trial. It’s yours to keep!

1. What is Ellp?

Think of Ellp as a digital butler – a personal device helper that gets PC tasks done for you. A butler whose main aim is to automate your PC in a simple, personalized and customizable way. You know all those boring PC tasks that you usually have to do yourself, such as removing duplicate files, organizing your Downloads folder, saving your tagged Facebook photos, securing your privacy, and freeing up disk space? Well, Ellp can take care of these tasks for you and so much more – so you can focus on what really matters most!

2. What’s the story behind Ellp?

We are a bunch of tech enthusiasts who share the same passions: inspiring landscapes, delicious food and quality time with people we care about. In today’s day and age, these simple things that matter to us the most, are often the ones we don’t have time for. From your child’s first steps, to the most delicious meal your grandma cooked, to sharing the romantic sunset with your partner – we all tend to miss out on these on a daily basis. Always busy, always doing something in front of a screen. Ellp was developed to change just that!

3. Where can I download Ellp from?

You can download Ellp from the Ellp homepage.

4. How much do I have to pay to use Ellp?

This is the best part yet – it’s completely FREE.

5. How does Ellp work?

  • What are Ellp Cards?

Ellp cards are the heart and soul of the whole automation concept. Each card helps you carry out a different task, covering four categories – productivity, performance, security, and entertainment. The card itself is based on a trigger and action approach. What’s that you might ask? Let’s take an Ellp card example, ‘When I spend too much time on Facebook, ping me’ – the trigger in this example is the fact that you’re spending a lot of time mindlessly scrolling on Facebook, while the action is Ellp pinging you back to reality, so you can get back to work and be more productive. For more detailed information click here.

  • How do I activate a card? / How can I start automating PC tasks?

You can flip through and select your preferred Ellp cards with ease.

  1. Choose the cards that matter most to you
  2. Edit them to your liking with Ellp’s simple editor
  3. Switch the activation toggle on
  • How do I view my activated cards?

We’re constantly going through your feedback and this was one of your top suggestions! You can now access your currently activated cards by simply going to the navigation menu and selecting the ‘My Cards’ tab.

  • How do I create and customize my own cards?

For the time being, you can’t create your own Ellp cards as they are predefined, but you can still optimize certain cards to your preferences in order to make the best and effective use of them. For example, you can choose your preferred time when to receive a weather update.

Don’t worry, creating custom cards is on our minds too and we will introduce the concept in a way in the future. First, we would like to understand the type of cards our users find more useful. Then, we will keep adding more customization options to them.

6. How do I update my username and email address?

  • Open Ellp
  • From the right-hand corner click the ‘Settings’ icon and then a “My Details’ panel will pop up
  • Enter the username and email address you’d like to use and click ‘Apply’

April 20 - (2 Min Read)

It’s here! We’re pleased to announce the launch of the new Ellp wesite!

We only launched Ellp a couple of months ago, so it’s still at early stages, nonetheless, we’re pleased to say that we’ve come a long way since launch day! With the aim of simplifying your everyday life, Ellp has undergone numerous updates to enhance your Ellp experience. You now have over 20 Ellp cards at your disposal, covering a vast number of categories  – which will only continue to increase! And now, after months of hard work and dedication, we’d like to proudly announce the release of our newly revamped website!

The primary focus of our site was placed on user experience and increasing the visibility of the Ellp cards. The new design is clean and simple, allowing for easy navigation. Based on our simplicity principle, the home page introduces a short video explaining how Ellp works. It also features an Ellp cards section, featuring a catalog of all the available cards, and a 3-step guide on how you can automate your day-to-day tasks with Ellp. Amongst the new features, the new website also includes testimonials received from our users who shared their views about their Ellp experience.

“The feedback that’s coming in is simply incredible! Whilst we are constantly working to add more features, we also had to make sure that our website clearly explains what Ellp is all about and presents all the cards people can activate. We also wanted to share some of the amazing comments our early users shared with us, together with a number of reviews Ellp received from top tech sites. One thing is for sure, this is just one of the many updates you’ll see from Ellp!” – Gilbert Camilleri, CEO at Ellp

We would like thank you for your ongoing feedback, support and kind words at every step of the way 🙂
