Advertisements, technicians, maybe even your kids tell you all the time that you need to buy new stuff, a new phone, new car, new laptop. What happened to the good old rule of fixing what’s broken rather than replacing it straight away?

If you’re happy with your old PC and don’t want to exchange it for a new model, we get that! It may be its ergonomics, maybe the feel of the keyboard under your fingertips, the personalization you gave it (and don’t want to do that again!). It may even be the dent that your grandson caused while role playing on your laptop. No matter what your reason is – we have good news.

There are ways to make your PC work as good as new! In fact, we are about to share with you the top 5 ways to boost PC performance at no cost, with minimal workload. Plus a bonus! An all-in-one FREE solution – Ellp.

This is not a trial. It’s yours to keep!

Here are our top 5 tips to boost PC performance:

Ellp Tip 1: Start and shutdown your PC properly

This simple rule may surprise you, especially being at the top of the list. And yet a lot of people tend to put their PCs to sleep rather than shutting them down after they’re done with using them. But it’s a mistake. Starting your PC after a proper shut down or restarting your PC helps your computer to re-calibrate after a full day of work. After all, even your PC needs a little shut eye!

It is easy enough to do yourself yet Ellp, being your PC assistant, can  help you out. It offers a card called ‘When it’s time, turn off my PC’. This card lets you choose at what time you’d like your PC to shutdown. Once you switch the activation toggle on, it starts doing the work for you.

Ellp Tip 2: Monitor your PC startup time

Since your PC is not new anymore it may be taking a bit longer to start up. What is longer? Any time over 1 minute should be alarming. For some of us, it’s a good time to make ourselves a cup of tea. But, in fact, a long start up is your PC’s way of asking for help. What is happening unknowingly to us, is that multiple programs are opening up upon PC startup at the same time. They may not only hinder your PC startup time, chances are that these programs continue to run in the background well after startup, using up a large chunk of your PC’s memory. This drains your PC resources and further slows it down.

What to do?

Ellp can help you monitor which applications are slowing down your PC at startup. You can do this by simply activating the ‘When an application start slowing down my PC startup, alert me’ card. When activated, Ellp will pinpoint the applications that are slowing down your PC startup time. This way you can access the Task Manager, and just go straight to the applications that are delaying you from getting on with your tasks.

Ellp Tip 3: Clear out unused programs and applications

Programs and applications tend to take up a lot of space. If they’re used on a regular basis then all’s well and good, however, if you no longer make use of them, then you might want to consider getting rid of them.

Follow these steps to uninstall:

  • Access the Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Programs and Features

From the list provided, simply right-click on the program or application and select Uninstall. If it doesn’t allow you to uninstall, it means that the program or application is a default program or app.

Pro Tip: Only remove programs and application you recognize, so as to avoid uninstalling any important programs you might need in the future.

PS. Some really important programs cannot be uninstalled as they are inbuilt and part of your PC’s factory settings.

Ellp Tip 4: Delete unwanted files

When was the last time you went through your files and cleared unneeded and unwanted files out? Most probably it’s been a while and it’s now taking its toll on PC performance. Keep in mind that the more files you accumulate, the slower and more cluttered your PC will become. Not only that, but these files also take up valuable space on your hard drive.

Clearing them up manually can be done. You just go through your folders, check and compare files and remove them one by one. It consumes a lot of time. Much more than we should be spending on PC maintenance.

This is where Ellp can come in handy. Ellp can easily keep track of such files and your disk’s storage space by utilizing the following Ellp cards:

  • ‘When my downloads folder is filling up, clear out the old stuff’

When activated and time limit for how long old items can stay within the Downloads folder is set, Ellp will notify you whenever your Downloads folder is filling up and with your approval it will clear out the old stuff for you, allowing you to reclaim valuable space.

  • ‘When my Recycle Bin is filling up, keep it clean’

This is one of the folders that is usually packed with unwanted files, however, we never get around to clearing it. This card will do the trick, as once activated it will alert you every time your Recycle Bin is close to being overloaded with old stuff, so you can keep it clean.

  • ‘When my hard disk is getting full, free up space’

By making use of this card, Ellp will inform you whenever your hard drive is close to getting full, and will then free up space for you. Not to worry, Ellp will only delete any temporary and junk files that are no longer needed by you or your PC, so no important files will be deleted. Once such files have been cleared out, Ellp will then notify you with the amount of space regained.

Ellp Tip 5: Do regular maintenance

One of the best ways to get the most out of your PC is to schedule regular maintenance. That is:

  • Proceeding with software updates
  • Running security scans
  • Checking for viruses, spyware and any other kind of malware.

Performing such regular checks, not only improves the functionality of your PC system but also helps patch up any security glitches. Which basically means that your PC is not only working faster yet is better secured against any cyber attacks.

The 5 tips to boost your PC performance may seem very basic. And you are right – they are. After all, it’s the little things that make a big difference.

What is the main benefit from this article?

Andrew held a big mug of his favorite coffee and intensely stared at his screen. From the moment he put his headset on, he couldn’t hear anything that was happening in a small one bedroom apartment, recently adapted to a photo studio. He was preparing for an upcoming Insta session with his friends. He knows how daunting and overwhelming it can be. That’s why he needed to download several shots for inspiration.

With a simple flip of the switch, he set up Ellp to save all pictures in ‘Insta’ folder on his desktop. Now, all he needed to do was to choose the best shots. He didn’t need to worry about downloading the same file twice during his hunt for inspiration, as Ellp was there to notify him about any duplicates. Limited space on his laptop, the issue his friends experienced so many times no matter how big their drives seemed to be, was also not an issue for him. Ellp was there to free up some space on his disk, every time his disk became 85% full. Enjoying his PC assistant doing a lot of his job for him, Andrew wished that Ellp could also choose the best props for his upcoming session, too.

Cards Andrew is using:

  • When I download a picture, save it to my preferred folder
  • When I download the same file twice, let me know
  • When my hard disk is getting full, free up space

At first, Jack didn’t want to try another free app, when Andrew recommended it to him. It didn’t take him too long though to find his favorite set of cards. New National Geographic Photo of the Day automatically set as his desktop background every day got his creative juices flowing and was a good productivity boost. Nevertheless, photo editing could become a very draining task at times. In fact, Jack had the tendency to spend more time on Facebook than adjusting lighting settings of Andrew’s shots. Until Ellp came to help. The app would ping him back to work every time he spent over 10 minutes mindlessly scrolling through his newsfeed. Plus, there would be no more fighting at the studio that he left his progressive music on when he left his desk for a moment. Ellp simply mutes the sound for him when he locks his PC.

Cards Jack is using:

  • When my favorite site posts a picture, set as desktop background
  • When I’m spending too much time on Facebook, ping me
  • When I lock my PC, mute the sound

What Alex likes about Ellp is how the app supports his mobile lifestyle. His favorite card monitors his laptop battery level for him and notifies him if it goes down to 40%. It minimizes the risk of the battery going flat on him during meetings with clients, that he likes to hold in local coffee shops. Being notified about open WiFi spots is always a bonus. In order to stay on top of any hacking attempts, Alex uses an Ellp card that alerts him in the case of a data breach involving his email address. But he is especially proud to discover that Ellp can assist as a market researcher, too. Whenever Andrew, his brother, is tagged on a photo on FB, Ellp downloads this photo to ‘Andrew’s Best FB Pics’ folder. This way, with Ellp’s help, they can create a database with Andrew’s most popular work.

Cards Alex is using:

  • When there is a new open WiFi spot, let me know
  • When my battery is half empty, let me know
  • When my email is involved in a data breach, alert me
  • When I’m tagged in a Facebook photo, download a copy

8 Ways to Boost Productivity During Exams

Written by Administrator

June 15 - (7 Min Read)

From not getting enough sleep, to completing the most dreadful study tasks in the morning, to drinking way too much coffee and – let’s be honest – hours and hours of procrastination on social media and offline, exams can be the most stressful time during your university adventure.

Constantly thinking about the exams may put a lot of pressure on you which then results in a productivity drop. Even if you put a lot of effort and time into your studies, you may not be happy with your results and miss that scholarship you are counting on. That’s why during this intense learning period, you need to create a support framework for your scholastic efforts.

From organizing your study environment, to helping you eliminate all distractions, to managing your social media time, Ellp has your back! We have prepared for you eight best ways to boost your productivity during exams. Ready, steady, go!

1. Set goals

Of course, your main goal is to pass. Yet the learning process should be divided into a set of smaller goals that will eventually help you achieve the main goal. If you haven’t worked hard enough during the year and don’t have much time left, don’t wait for miracles, instead, set measurable goals to track your progress and ensure a positive test result.

How will you set your measurable goals? To finish revising a subject, or reading a chapter, isn’t measurable in terms of knowledge acquired. So how can you measure this more effectively? Think about exercises done, definitions known and learned. An example of measurable objectives includes: know 100% of the definitions of a chapter, know how to do 100% of the simple exercises and 80% of the difficult tasks, etc. This allows you to know exactly where you are in terms of preparation. You won’t need to go back, and you’ll have a clearer, more serene mind. Bonus: you’ll work more efficiently.

2. Organize your workplace

From picking up empty (water) bottles to keeping your PC clean, these seemingly small changes make a big difference in your productivity levels. We can’t help you with making your bed, but we can help you with cleaning your PC.

Think of Ellp as a free app for productivity, designed to make your college life easier. Need to download some materials or save a summary sent to you by a friend? Want to make sure you don’t have unnecessary duplicate files in your Downloads folder and that you can easily track what you downloaded into specific folders? But, how? Ellp has just the right cards designed specifically to do just that. You can find them in the Productivity section of the app.

3. Stay hydrated

Most of us know that staying hydrated is important for physical performance, but did you know that this is just as essential – and perhaps even more so – for our brains? Aim to drink at least 6 glasses of water a day as dehydration can cause headaches and exhaustion. Drinking water helps stimulate the power of our brain and improves our memory. This is why staying hydrated during your exam period is so important, as it can help you succeed and boost your productivity. So be sure to bring a bottle of water when revising and even in the exam room.

4. Limit your time on social media

We are not telling you to cut your social media time to zero as we know for sure that you won’t be able to keep that up – we couldn’t do that either. Instead, make a conscious choice about how you use your social media time moment by moment. How? Here are some tips for avoiding social media and personal technology distractions (spoiler alert – we will mention Ellp again as this is the best app for productivity we know about)!

  • Turn off alerts and notifications on your phone, so that nothing tempts you away from your book
  • Check your emails maximum 3 times a day
  • Set up Ellp’s Facebook card to ping you every time you spend too much time on Facebook. Even if you discuss exams or set up a study group meeting, you may easily get sucked mindless scrolling. Let Ellp motivate you back to work. It will pay off later when you will be celebrating your results!

5. Eat the right food

Successful exams are also prepared on the plate! Whether it’s for the revision period or the day of the tests, you have to be at your best. To do this, eating well is essential. During the exam period, you are a bit like an athlete, except that your main muscles are your neurons! To allow information to be processed, linked together and memorized, your brain consumes energy. This is why it is necessary to have a balanced diet so that you can give the best of yourself.

Interestingly, although the brain accounts for only 2% of our body mass, it absorbs 20% of the oxygen breathed and 20% of the energy consumed. Your brain may be especially greedy during exams time. There are essential foods to help the brain during exam period to enable long-term concentration, fight fatigue, and stress. To support the effort required during examinations, certain nutrients are indispensable:

  • Protein and iron: meat-preferably red, egg, fish (choose fatty fish like mackerel, sardines, salmon, tuna for additional Omega 3 boost)
  • Calcium: dairy and cheese (choose hard cheeses as they contain more calcium)
  • Vitamin C (vitamin of intellectual and physical effort): kiwi, orange, grapefruit, mango, red pepper, parsley, tomatoes

An idea to combine all of the above? Whole-grain pasta with canned tuna in olive oil with fresh tomatoes and parsley. Easy to make, nutritious and yum!

6. Change environment

Your study environment can be a big factor in how successfully you’ll learn and retain information and are able to apply it in your exams. Choosing the right place to study is almost as important as having good study skills. Changing your environment may help your brain stay focused.

Whether it would be your friend’s place, a local library, a quiet park or your favorite coffee place, you need to make sure your laptop stays charged. Since you’re going to be glued to your screen, most probably you won’t even notice that your battery level dropped! Ellp can monitor that for you and alert you the moment your battery level drops below a certain threshold – 80%, 50% or 20% – it’s totally up to you. Just make sure you give yourself enough time to grab your cable and get plugged in before any important work gets lost.

7. Be social

Exams may seem a good time to close your room doors and avoid any company, but they’re not! It’s always important to surround yourself with other people. During such an extensive study period, you just need to manage your social life much better. Join a study group, invite your friends over for an evening walk or jog, or even call your parents for extra support. Spending your time with other people prevents the feeling of separation. It’s especially important during highly stressful times like exams, as stress and lack of socialization combined may lead to depression.

8. Get some rest

The biggest mistake students can make, is to eliminate exercise, entertainment and sleep during the exams period. It’s tempting to do so, as you’d get more studying done, but in the long run, it will affect your concentration and your mode of study. Sport energizes the body, releases the mind and helps fight stress. When you’re relaxed, you gain concentration and attention, so don’t hesitate to go out for some fresh air, for a short jog of half an hour or just a few pushups every morning.

Sleep allows you to record and determine the knowledge acquired during the day. 8 hours per night would be ideal; don’t get too distracted and procrastinate about sleeping. If you are having trouble keeping up with your rest schedule, get Ellp to help. Choose a specific time that you want to finish studying for the day so that your PC shuts down and you can take a nice warm shower and a good night’s sleep.

So, these are the 8 ways to boost your productivity during exams featuring your free digital helper Ellp, the app for productivity used by students around the globe. We hope that you find them useful and that you have already chosen a few to get going.

Good luck with your exams!

How can Ellp Enhance your Gaming Experience?

An enemy has been slai-iiii-iiiiii-nnnn…
You have been slain…
and disconnected!
Now you have to reboot. You know your PC will take ages to restart and the penalty for AFK (staying away from your keyboard, abandoning your team mid-game) isn’t something you need right now! Wait a moment before you decide to uninstall and throw your PC out of the window. Ellp might be able to help!

Ellp – a new Champ in the gaming world

Was Ellp born to help gamers? Not exactly. But we can all shape our own destiny, and so can Ellp! One thing to take into consideration about Ellp, is that currently it’s still a low-level character on its way to its full glory. We’re constantly growing and developing to make gaming beyond smooth, and as we level up, we plan to add more and more functionalities to create the Ultimate PC Gaming Experience, for gamers like us. However, the main quest here, is what can Ellp do for you right now?

Free Download CTA

Skill path 1: Performance

No one wants to use a wooden computer. You might be surprised to find out that there is more to your PC than you think. With some simple applications, Ellp can help you boost the performance of your PC. How? With the help  of the following two cards:

1. When your hard disk is getting full, Ellp will be there to free up some space
It will notify you about the issue and will ask you to perform a cleanup to get rid of some unwanted files that you never use so that the space can be used up by what matters.

2. When an application is slowing down my PC startup, alert me
Ellp can significantly help with improving PC startup time by identifying those high impact processes which you may potentially do without. This is done by connecting directly to the system’s Task Manager; focusing on the “Startup impact” resources. Any resource you free up, be it memory or processing power, can be used to increase your gaming experience. Sounds good? Brace yourself, there is more.

Skill path 2: Internet

If you are anything like us, a lot of your gaming frustrations come from the quality of your Internet connection. With the ‘When I get disconnected from the Internet, alert me’ card activated, Ellp will notify you immediately when there is an interruption in the Internet connection so that you don’t have to check it manually in the middle of the game.  we can help you monitor your connection so that you know what’s coming.

Now, there is a small disclaimer here – our dev team is still working to make sure that the notifications overwrite the game layout so that you can actually see them. Please bear with us, we are leveling up, remember?

Skill path 3: Ease of Use

Chances are, that you’re currently immersed in a single game experience only. For me, it’s League of Legends. For my colleague, it’s Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. We’re not playing anything else at the moment. And of course – we use our headsets for an even better in-game experience. So… we came up with the following card: ‘When I plug in my headphones, open my favorite application’. You simply choose the game .exe file and it’s there for you upon plugging in your headset. There is a really good news and not that good news connected to this card. The really good one is that whether you play on your laptop or your PC, you are able to connect not only your headset yet also your speakers to build the best sound experience. However, if you play on your laptop only, you need the USB connection in order for this card to work.

Another card that we find useful, and you may too, is the ‘When my battery is half empty, let me know’. Easily customizable, it keeps an eye on your power levels while you are busy eliminating your enemies. The real value of this card is that you are able to set the threshold to any level you want. After all, it is you who knows how much power need to be left for you to plug in the laptop without it shutting down. So forget standard 20%, you need 50% to be on the safe side? Can be done! Cool, huh?

This is the selection of cards that we find especially useful for gamers, yet Ellp offers much more! Currently, Ellp offers over 20 cards that take care of your PC’s performance, online security, productivity, and entertainment. With the new update coming next week (8th May 2017), Ellp will offer over 25 different cards and the number is ever-growing. In fact, we would like to ask you, to…

As much as we hope that you will like our app, we hope it will leave you hungry for more. Let us know what other gaming-related cards you’d like to see in Ellp. Ellp updates
Written by Administrator

April 6 - (4 Min Read)

These past 3 months flew by in the blink of an eye! I guess that’s what happens when you’re having fun creating and developing a product that people are enjoying 🙂 We can’t thank you enough for your feedback! To show you that your comments didn’t fall on deaf ears, we’ve got more updates for you.

So here’s what’s in store for you this time around:

When I’m spending too much time on Facebook, ping me

At some point in the day, your mind may wander off elsewhere instead of focusing on the task at hand. More often than not, you’ll end up wasting time scrolling through your Facebook newsfeed or snooping around other people’s profiles. Don’t worry, you’re not alone, we’re all guilty of this! Ellp has got a card to remedy this ailment. All you’d have to do is activate this card and select a timeframe, for example: ‘When I spend more than 30 minutes browsing through Facebook, ping me’. Once activated, Ellp will alert you when you’ve spent way too much time on Facebook, so you can stop procrastinating and get back to work.Ellp update - FB ping cardWhen my downloads folder is filling up, clear out the old stuff

When was the last time you went through your downloads folder and cleared it out? No need to be ashamed if you haven’t done so in quite a while, I dread it too! Unless you have some sort of preconfigured settings, all your downloaded files will be automatically saved in your Downloads folder. It would be swell if you were able to clear out the Downloads folder without the headache of having to manually take care of it yourself. No?! This is where this new Ellp card comes in handy! By simply activating this card and setting the time limit for how long old items can stay, Ellp will notify you whenever your Downloads folder is filling up. Once it has your approval it will clear out the old stuff for you, allowing you to get back that valuable disk space you so desperately need!

Ellp update-Full Download cardWhen I plug in my headphones, open YouTube

So we already have a card that launches Spotify when you plug in your headphones or headset. However, not everyone uses Spotify, for some YouTube e is the go-to music site. So we thought, why not have a card that launches YouTube, each time you plug in your headphones? So how does this work exactly? First things first: you’ll need headphones 😉 Once that’s sorted, simply activate the card and boom, you’re all set! This way you can save time and just go straight to your favorite videos and music. Enjoy!

ellp update-YouTube cardWhen I download a movie, save it to my preferred folder

Nowadays we can simply download anything we like, we have access to an immense variety of options, from music files to movies. Meaning that you no longer have to wait till a movie is available at your local cinema to watch it, instead, you can simply purchase and download to watch it in the comfort of your own home. How sweet is that?! The only issue is that we tend to download so many files that it can be somewhat of a nightmare to stay going through all the downloads in search of that movie you’ve been so dying to watch. Ever tried purchasing some awesome festival concert tickets, or set a movie to download, only to realize that half way through the transaction or download your internet connection got disconnected? This can be pretty frustrating as well as time-consuming, as it means you’ll need to go back and re-start the entire process from scratch.

In this day and age, the Internet has become a can’t live without commodity, not to mention a lifeline for most! Just imagine trying to get things done without it – the thought is disturbing, to say the least! But let’s not think about disconnection just yet…

Having a fast and reliable Internet connection is essential, especially in this information era where practically almost everything (in whole or in part) is done over the internet. So without a stable connection, there’s bound to be some serious hair pulling along the way.

Going back to disconnections… and going back to how important the Internet is to us, it’s especially nerve-wracking being suddenly cut off from the Internet. What’s worse, however, is being cut off and not knowing about it right away. Am I right?!

This is where our latest Ellp card comes in handy. We have developed a card with a heads-up system in place that notifies you each time you get disconnected from the Internet, so every time you lose connectivity you’ll be the first to know about it.

To find this card, simply open your installed version of Ellp, navigate to the ‘Performance’ category and just switch the activation toggle on, and that’s you all set!

When I plug in my headphones, open my favorite application

Do you find yourself opening the same applications each time you start up your PC? Since most programs and applications don’t launch automatically upon startup, this means you have to stay spending time locating and opening them manually. If you’re limited with time, this way is certainly not helpful! While pinning your favorite applications to the taskbar is one option, we have a better and faster way to do this! With Ellp’s latest card, you can now automatically launch your preferred application whenever you plug in your headphones. All you need to do is find this card, choose your favorite application, and switch the activation toggle on – and that’s you all set!

When I download a document, save it to my preferred folder

When saving documents to your PC most operating systems tend to save all downloaded files to the downloads folder, which means you need to stay searching through tons of downloaded files just to find the one you’re looking for. This way of going around things is not only irritating but also very time-consuming! To help you keep everything organized on your computer, Ellp came up with a brand new card that lets you save your downloaded documents to a preferred folder of your choice. Now you can access the files you want with ease by simply selecting and activating this card – this way you can use your time more effectively.

When I get disconnected from the internet, alert me

Here’s what’s new on Ellp:

When I plug in my headphones, open Spotify

Without music, life would be a mistake’ – we couldn’t agree more with this statement from German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche! In fact, Ellp continues to bring your favorite music services together. So if you’re a Spotify devotee, this card might just tickle your fancy. Once your headphones are plugged in, Spotify will launch automatically. This will not only enhance your digital experience, it will also save you lots of time, allowing you to go straight to your favorite song, artist or playlist, so you can get down to business.

When an application starts slowing down my PC startup, alert me

Tired of wasting time waiting for your PC to load up? We totally understand your frustration. After all, no one enjoys sitting idly, wasting endless amounts of time just waiting for their Windows to load up. Unfortunately, because most applications tend to run automatically upon startup, these applications can take quite a toll on PC speed and performance, and as a result, this can curb productivity. Thankfully, Ellp has got you sorted! Stop wasting time and get straight to the important stuff with Ellp. Once activated, this Ellp card will run silently in the background, searching for power hungry applications that are slowing down PC startup time. As soon as these heavy applications are detected, Ellp will immediately notify you, so that you can close them and boost performance.
